Update on building work

Since I last added photos a lot has happened. Predictably with any work such as this we have had lots of small (and big!) add-ons. The whole central heating system is being replaced, Our existing upstairs bathroom has had a sloping ceiling turned into a straight wall (which was brilliant!). This week has probably been the busiest. We had nightmares dealing with Tile companies. B&Q I thought would be reliable with deliveries turned out not to be so good. Floor tiles promised for last Friday ended up not being in stock. Then when they were delivered, 10 out of 50 boxes were broken! Luckily this time they had more in stock. Then the tilers started laying the tiles and found that some of them were slightly smaller than they should have been!! Other than that, our new kitchen has been delivered this morning from Magnet, who have been great so far, I hope everything is OK with the delivery. Most of the windows are in place and the whole project is now an indoor one. Wiring is complete and plumbing/central heating is well on the way. Everything in the house was pretty old so it has been a great effort on the part of James (St James Construction) and his guys. The only big surprise I suspect (but I hope not) will be the bill for all the additional work that we've asked for!

New project

I've been away for a long time, and it seems that last attempt at a blog was another that did not last too long. So this time I actually have a project that I am going to keep track of. We are having an extension built so I am going to put up photos of the work and how it is going. We started about 4 weeks ago (although the planning process started ages ago) So here are the first pictures of the work after week 2 and 3 (week 1 was just tearing down our conservatory and garage) Week 1 was demolishing our conservatory and garage to make space for the new extension and then digging out a bank in the garden. I'll dig(!) out some old photos to try to show what it looked like before.

Week 2 - Foundation trenches dug

Week 3 - Foundations complete with first layer of bricks

Week 4 - Building up the walls to window/door level and raising the floor level

Englands World Cup Bid in Turmoil Shocker...

Anyone who knows me, also knows that I like my football and cricket and pretty much any sport. So football and cricket will probably be regular themes of my posts.

Anyway, this week Lord Triesman (head of the England 2018 football world cup bid) went to dinner with a friend who he used to work with, and said something stupid about the Spanish and Russian bribing referees. This so called friend taped the whole conversation and sold in to the Mail on Sunday.

Now if he had said this in public, he would deserve to be sacked. And actually as it has come out that he said it he has been put into an untenable position and resigned. What I cannot get my head round is why this "friend" taped and sold the story and what motivation the Mail on Sunday would have in publishing it. Although they probably got a slightly higher circulation last Sunday, they are now at risk of England fans boycotting the paper. There is no national interest in this story and all it does is damage the bid.

Anyway I'm adding my voice to the Mail on Sunday boycott call (not that I would buy that pile of c..p anyway).

Introduction

So I have had blogs before, one to describe my experiences of living in Chennai for a couple of years, another to try and describe my studies in IT security (didn't work out too well...).

This one is just going to be my blog to note down general stuff going on in my life or basically anything I want to talk (or rant) about.

I guess some people may be wondering about the name of the blog. It is actually a quote from Einstein: "We all must from time to time make a sacrifice at the altar of stupidity, for the entertainment of the deity and mankind.". I leave it to you to choose if it is me or my subject matter that is making that sacrifice...
